Abdullahi Ganduje, Kano State governor has denied collecting bride from contractors of the state government despite series of video contradicting his claim.
Mr Ganduje ran into trouble when an online newspaper, Daily Nigerian, reported that he usually demand kickbacks from contractors of the state government for projects awarded to them.
The online portal said the kickback percentage often range from 15 to 25 percent per contract. But the governor dismissed the claim asking for evidence.
When Daily Nigerian published videos of the allegation, the embattled governor said it was cloned.
As the time of filling this report, there has been atleast four (4) of such video currently flying on the cyber space.
When Jafar Jafar, the publisher of the online platform appeared before the panel set up by the Kano State assembly, he testified against the governor saying the videos were authentic with nine (9) of it clearly showed the face of Ganduje out of fifteen (15) clips in his possession.
The publisher disclosed they he agreed with a representative of a contractor to the state government, who has been paying kickbacks to the governor, to plant spy cameras on the clothing of the representative while presenting the bribe.
Thereafter the governor was summoned to appear before the panel set up by the state legislative chamber to defend himself on the basis of fair hearing.
Appearing before the panel on Friday, the governor represented by the Commissioner of Information, Muhammad Garba, said there was no truth in the allegation.
Mr Garba said the aim of those who released the video was to politically tarnished the image of his principal.
The governor said the allegation levelled against him are injurious.
On his part, Chairman of the committee, Hon Baffa Danagundi, assured the public that justice would be done to all parties involved.
